Indonesia is committed to designing industrial zones that support the achievement of Net Zero Emission (NZE). The Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, who is also the Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, emphasized during a panel session at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Wednesday (January 22, 2025) that sustainability must be a top priority for both local and foreign companies in executing their projects. During the discussion, Rosan revealed that several industrial clusters in Indonesia are already integrated, consuming approximately 4.5 gigawatts (GW) of energy. The government also plans to expand capacity by adding 2.5 GW of green energy supply.

"Our target is to ensure that the entire energy demand of 6.6 GW in these clusters is fully met with clean energy," he explained. He also highlighted the importance of an industrial cluster-based approach in building a sustainable ecosystem.

Additionally, Rosan stated that Indonesia has developed industrial clusters designed to achieve NZE. One example is the nickel industry cluster, which integrates the entire supply chain—from nickel production to battery recycling for electric vehicles—within a single location. This initiative is driven by Indonesia's vast renewable energy potential, including solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and ocean wave energy, with a total potential capacity of 3,700 GW.
